Hello my name is
Andrew Kostjuk I was born in Montréal
Quebec and moved
to Ajax
Ontario when I
was about 6 years of age. |
|
When I was a kid I always wanted to
examine things closely and I
found out very early in life
that I had a very powerful gift
for the visual eye, not to
mention perception and
interpretation as well. I am now
21 years old and attending the
Ontario Collage of Art and
Design (OCAD) in
Toronto for my
double major in art history and
philosophy. I started producing
art at a very young age painting
and drawing anything that popped
in my head. |
|
As I got older I
became very attracted to the
dark minds of Stephen king and
Clive Barker particularly Clive
Barker. Within his paintings his
use of color seems to capture
the dark, morbid and bizarre,
surrealistic mind in a very
profound manner. I became a big
supporter of the abstract and
surreal styles of modern and
post modernism. Some of the main
artists who I found contributed
to the art world and made a very
powerful change of perception
within the world are that of
Salvatore
Dali, Pablo
Picasso, Clive Barker, and of
course Leonardo Da Vinci.
|
|
Although for
myself I was deemed to push
those worlds much further with
my experimental line of works
that I first released; starting
in the year 1999, trying to
merge both abstract and
surrealism in a way that is
unique to all the rest of the
work that I grew up liking. As a
result I had won honorable
mentions of excellence for my
art work from the Durham Region
Pine Ridge Arts Council. I have
also sold many pieces of my work
to help expand the creative flow
in others, developing respectful
relationships with my buyers. |
|
Now I do my best
to try and integrate sculpture
within my paintings in order to
create a fully dynamic 3
dimensional
piece that can allow the viewer
to interact with the painting.
Along with sculpture and paint I
also work with digital media,
film, silkscreen, printmaking,
wood, steel, and special FX make
up. In the end I feel that my
main objective as an artist is
to distort the boundaries that
artists usually find relevant
and in so doing allowing the
viewer to see life through a new
light in order so that they may
return to their own source of
humanity. |
