Biography - David  Charles Lloyd

David Lloyd was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1953. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1977. He studied for his third year in Florence, Italy under the instruction of Franklin Arbuckle. He worked for about 10 years in Toronto as a freelance illustrator, and painter.

In 1986 he obtained a BFA from the University of Guelph, and a few years later a Bed from the University of Western Ontario. He taught art in several schools in the Brampton area, and now resides in Barrie, Ontario where he supply teaches and continues his painting.

David has painted for over thirty years and has accumulated a very large body of work that includes hundreds of oil paintings, collages, drawings, and journals.

Artist's Statement

The art of David Lloyd has developed and matured over thirty or more years. Imagination and fantasy have continued to be a hallmark of his work.

His recent paintings reflect a fascination with the mysterious origins of design and creative inspiration by employing an imaginative interplay of colour, shapes, and textures over carefully prepared fields of muted colour. A perceived analogy to song and dance would be correct. In fact the artist likens his paintings to changed poems, more evident even in his many collages.

His years as a teacher exposed him to the art of children which in his humble opinion is the greatest art in the world.
