Uldi Gailis was born in Lodeve, France. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1977.
Uldi began his career painting outdoor murals. He has done a variety of murals, one of his largest commissions being for the Canadian National Exhibition Food Pavilion.
Uldi went on to pioneer his own company creating and designing ergonomic factory environments for clients such as Kellogg's, Steelcase, Magna and General Motors. The intent was to create a more dynamic work space for the workers.
Uldi's primary focus at this time is abstract art. He primarily works in acrylic, some mixed media and conventional spray bombs. His most recent series of works are graffiti landscapes,
and a series in Japanese
abstracts. These landscapes depict wording in the languages-in the abstract.
Uldi has also been commissioned to do abstract portraits of people. These can be done by simply providing a picture of the person to Uldi.
Uldi has artwork currently hanging in the offices of lawyers, landscape designers, and other professionals.
Uldi is presently showing at the Adelaide Gallery in Barrie, Ontario. He will be having a showing of his new work on May 1, 2010.
